They were looking for restaurant recommendations, not confirmation. The OP doesn't have a declaration that Little Italy is the best place to eat. It's asking for the best places to eat there.

It's pretty much the textbook definition of condescending. A-hole is obviously a matter of opinion. The first couple of responses are nice enough, but there's some nuts who continued to argue after the OP explained she was just looking in that specific area and not looking for the best restaurant in New York.[/quote]
