Junior year grades will be the most important - that could go either way. SAT will increase almost certainly, in at least one section. Retake in spring or next fall. ECs are half-baked, as junior year is usually more fruitful for ECs, e.g. better chance for debate awards, teen job next summer, etc.

Also, being so early in junior year, it's unlikely you have already visited multiple options for ED. Since you can afford to do so, do not have your child apply ED to a school you have not visited.

If your high school uses Naviance or Scoir or similar, check out the scattergrams. It is hard for others to judge your high school. For mid-size universities, I'd probably be looking beyond top 10, but if junior year goes very well, throw in few T20 reaches. Have a bunch of T20-50s and then some safeties all the way back to T80s+. [/quote]
