No, you cannot take it as an 8th class. You can take it as a "9th period" class but it is discouraged. Just take it over the summer next year. It doesn't have to be during or before 9th grade, it can be later.
You sure? You can take HPE 10 in the summer before 11th grade?
This summer (2024) , I asked TJ counselor if my kid could take PE (for 9 grade) next summer so the kid had space for other elective class and they said No.
I know TJ is special, but my Oakton kid took Online PE 9 after 9th grade and PE 10 after 10th grade. I'm not quite sure what would stop you from doing this. you sign up for it yourself online. I once met a kid taking PE 10 as a senior (in person).
Since the school counselor said no in the summer, we followed their advice and did not sign up for it. But thanks much for the info!
I think the issue is you cannot take PE 9 AFTER 9th grade but yes it can - and typically is at TJ - be taken the summer before 9th.
My kid actually took PE 9 in the summer AFTER 10th grade in FCPS. It was not a problem. Why would anyone care as long as the requirement is met?
At TJ they were allowed to do it? I could see TJ being stricter because it is already a crush to get in all the classes you need there given the extra ones they require.
TJ does not allow postponing PE to the summer. If a student hasn't completed PE 9 during the previous summer, they will be enrolled in PE 9 during their freshman year.
