They biologically can't fall asleep really early.  They are also developing/growing  a lot and need as much sleep as a newborn.  [/quote]

I do have a teen and that’s just not true. My teen (almost 15) goes to bed around 10 pm normally. We wouldn’t allow him to stay up past midnight unless it was like New Years or something. A sick kid? He’d be going to bed earlier.  Absolutely not going to stay up past midnight. Parenting fail.[/quote]

Also agree.  Before I had teens, i definitely bought into what that PP said. Now that I have a couple and listen to many more talk, I think there are so many more factors than biology.[/quote]

+1. My HS Junior takes a rigorous course load, is on a competitive dance team, and has a PT job, all her choice. On the rare occasion she even has the option to sleep in, she sleeps until 10:30 or 11am. It would be hard for her to sleep much later because she knows she needs to more or less stick to her schedule. We are very fortunate that HS by us doesn’t start until 9:30 so she is not chronically tired. Although many clubs and things will meet before school, usually 8:30. [/quote]
