The educated are long gone from DC. As well as anyone with any common sense.
So strange how Americans hate their cities. Since cities are really social hubs where people come together for work and culture, it really reflects how much Americans despise each other.
We specifically moved to DC from a higher cost of living city (NY) and wanted the walkability, amenities and convenience of a city without the massive COL increase. We like it here because can still live in a city and have a house with a garden and yet still be steps from everything. Our street is quiet and the neighbors are friendly. Our kid goes to the local school, which has saved us $$$ so far vs private in NY. A lot of people moving in and out, predictably as jobs change, but also a lot of long-term residents and a surprising amount of retirees who just like being able to walk to everything without being stuck in a retirement community in the suburbs. I think people on forums make a lot of noise, but it's different from the reality. And I like to think that we are educated. :) We did the suburb thing for 10 years and it wasn't for us, but a lot of people like it, especially if having a spacious home and plenty of parking is a high priority.
