My relative met her current serious boyfriend when he volunteered for a charity where she is a staff member. Same values, established from the start. A friend met his wife at their college's DC-area alumni group. Same frame of reference and starting point for things to talk about. I met my DH at church in the young adult group. Same values, and turned out we had a lot of interests in common. Another friend met her boyfriend at open ballroom dance lessons at a dance school. My young adult DD is the same age as OP's DS, and she just moved to a new city solo, and she's done things like join a crafting group and a city park cleanup organization--no dates yet that I know of, but she's meeting new friends.

Do what you value, what you enjoy, and would do anyway--even if you weren't hoping to meet someone to date. Then you'll have a better foundation and will already know you share at least one interest when you meet someone who's appealing.[/quote]
