A giant state school for free is a great idea for a humanities major who doesn't want a pressure cooker environment. I took a similar NMF scholarship to a similar giant school that does not have academic cachet but does very well in bowl games and even though I got great grades and went on to go to a top law school/white shoe firm, I've probably spent a quarter of every interview of my life talking about college football with the old white guy on the other side of the desk. They eat it up.
This is basically what my nephew with a similar profile did, and ten years out, it appears to have been the correct strategy.
Thank you both for sharing! We are also looking at USF, UT Dallas and U of Tulsa as schools that offer extremely generous NMF packages. Arizona is off the list - too hot! Kid doesn’t want loans or to have us pay for school. Exploring English and Digital Media (film, video) as major/minor. Their goal is to have a solid education without the pressure of a T20. I know most of these schools aren’t even T50 but respect their preference.
