Thank you! The house has other curvy features and we are keeping them. We are, however, redoing the kitchen and making it modern. We are not paying homage to the 80s there. Not even french countrystyle. So my hope is that using a modern free-standing bathtub and modern vanity and light fixtures, together with modern finishes, will span the arc from the 80s to our otherwise modern esthetic.

I think it’s going to be tragic. This IS a “modern” bathroom. It’s in great shape. It’s authentic to the house. You’re going to replace it with something labeled 2020 that is not and will never feel authentic to the house.[/quote]

OP here. The current plant is to update the finishes and replace the tub with a free-standing one. I expect it to still look authentic. [/quote]

But those freestanding tubs everyone likes right now are of this moment. When your house was built, no one wanted those. They would associate them with old clawfoot Victorian things. Your built in, sunken tub is as awesome as the rest of the bathroom! You’re going to take it out and replace it with something that might as well be stamped “2015ish.” [/quote]
