Thank you to the above. Yes, she is physically already there. It is the IQ, dominance, decision making, confidence piece. Seems hard to get on a 2nd team, even if you are the best player on that team you don’t have others that can work with you. And good colleges want that playmaker mentality, which at that level means working seamlessly with your teammates. That is what the top players seem to do best.
To answer your first question, "Is there still time at U14?" Yes, there is, but it isn't unlimited time depending on HER goals. You have to talk with your daughter on what her goals are in the sport and work out the best avenues to achieve them. And each year or half year, re-evaluate those goals and see if they are still what she wants. You really need to let her drive this bus. At this age, before the high school ages, there is still so much learning and growing for all players. Some players will improve, some will plateau or regress, and others will leave the sport entirely within the next 4 years. If your daughter has the desire, then she will get better. All you can do is keep finding her the opportunities to play and to drive her to the fields. This may mean asking to practice with your academy's higher level team, playing futsal or indoor during the off-season, or finding another club that will allow her to play and/or practice with the upper team. Maybe, have her find a group of boys that she can play with. At these ages the boys are getting stronger and faster than the girls and if she can practice or free play with boys, the whole game will start to slow down for her. Good Luck and try to enjoy it all. There are many pathways and you just need to make sure your daughter is having fun. My journey for all of this is almost completed and I know I'll miss it when it is gone.
