I am not skinny, but have gradually dropped a lot of weight in a sane way. My DD is 2 and I weigh 30 pounds less than I did when I got pregnant with her. 1 - tracking my food. I track everything I eat and watch for trends - I noticed that I was doing a lot of pre-dinner munching. Now, I make sure to have a healthy snack right before I leave for work and account for that in what i am eating for the day. I also noticed that the weeks i ate a large breakfast (500 calories or so) I tended to lose more weight. So I always eat a big breakfast now. 2. Exercise - started with working out 3 days a week, hell or high water. Now i work out 5 days a week (2 days of circuit or strength training, 3 days of running or other high intensity cardio. I use a heart rate monitor and make sure I am kicking my a** when I work out...no watching a move and plodding along on the elliptical.) In addition to burning calories, it makes me really respect and care about my body - and I am more likely to take care of it. The days I don't work out, I try to walk 3-4 miles. I don't do "cheat" days. It's too easy to unwind 5 days in one "bad" day. Also, I know that I will go overboard on weekends if I am too restrictive on the weekdays. I just incorporate small amounts of treats into my week - maybe a couple days a week. I use myfitnesspal to set goals and track my calories/nutrients. I've lost about 40 pounds in 18 months, not doing anything I can't maintain for the rest of my life.
