If they canceled only recess after 1 pm then some parent will complain their kid didn’t get recess while other kids did in the morning. If you leave it up to school by school discretion then some parent will complain that teacher or school X didn’t do the same thing as school Y. All you complainers are the reason that APS has to come up with a single consistent response to NWS advisories, but then you’re also going to find reason to complain about that. I have plenty of gripes about APS, but this thread is proof that some parents will complain about everything. I feel bad for the poor teachers who have to put up with annoying whiny parents.
That's one of the weakest slippery slope arguments I've ever heard. Why don't we just cancel recess on any day it might rain too? That way some kids won't get recess when others have it cancelled for rain? Better yet, let's just do away with recess entirely? Why not? It's clearly of no importance to learning.
Because we don’t have NWS advisories for rain and rain is a much more common occurrence than extreme heat. It’s more like coming up with a county wide policy for snow days than rain. Also I don’t think you understand what a slippery slope argument is. I was pointing out that no matter what they do parents will complain so may as well make one bright line decision in the hopes of minimizing the peanut gallery. This way they can just pass the buck to the NWS and say because there was X advisory they did Y. Takes any subjectivity out of it.
