Weird. Boomers and Gen X grew up on this stuff and you guys complain they are living too long.
People consume more now though.
People consume more cured meat now than boomers and previous generations? Reliable data on that please? Curing meat is an ancient practice. Humans have consumed a lot of cured meat over thousands of years.
It is undoubtedly true that people are consuming more ultra processed foods than ever before. https://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2021/october/ultra-processed-foods.html You're focusing only on cured meats, which would fall in UPFs, but overall Americans are packing away more highly processed junk foods than ever before. I'm sure people have consumed cured meats all throughout history. But that was also offset by large consumption of freshly made breads, fruits, vegetables, and other raw ingredients they were minimally manipulated simply because modern food science and manufacturing as we currently know it didn't exist. And look at the link above. Despite their healthy Mediterranean based diet, why are Italians top 10 for pancreatic cancer? Too much consumption of cured meats?
So basically no cite to support your suggestion that people eat more cured meat today than a generation ago. Just lumping it in with bad diet generally. Ok.
