He should remain in juvenile court so that we don’t destroy his life. Maybe he could go to a youth camp or something. He definitely needs some sort of heavy intervention. The fact that he was riding around with other younger kids is a sign that he is not a full on adult criminal. It’s cheaper in the long run if we can rehabilitate this young man rather than break him in adult prison.
It must be nice living in La La Land.
Most criminals don't get better. Rehabilitation, wrap around services, and therapy don't work well to reduce crime. The most effective way to reduce crime is by throwing people who commit crime in jail to prevent them from harming other people. Most kids are not antisocial criminals that steal cars or act out violently. The people that do this should be locked up to protect the rights of everyone else.
This. IDGAF about rehabilitation. I just want the threat removed. Bury him under the jail and lock his parents up too.
+100 if your toddler got mowed down by some “just a kid” car thief I don’t think you’ll care too much about giving him a second chance. I care about the safety of my community. I don’t care about the offenders. They can do their time, clean up their act, and go on to be productive members of society if they’d like. But they need to be locked away long enough to not just be able to keep doing the same crap over and over. I would rather some criminal kid rot in prison until his 30s than a single innocent person be harmed. I also don’t want to hear about how these kids are “disadvantaged.” Plenty of kids growing up disadvantaged manage to not commit crimes and they deserve to live in a safe area as well. Also plenty of rich kids commit crimes and they should be locked up too. Get the problem kids off the streets so the good kids can flourish.
You are a terrible racist.
That is the go to insult these days when logic fails.
This is why I suggested reading Betts's book. I am quite confident the relevant poster would not be deemed a racist by Betts merely for raising tough questions. One vein of his book is how senseless a lot of the troubled behavior happens to be. And Betts would question impulsive calls to racism. One thing that shocked me upon his release is that Betts was admitted to Howard and Maryland for college. Howard, under the guise of "moral" standards, pulled his admission. So much for being the black Mecca. I was struck by the irony.
