Dozens of Donald Trump supporters in North Carolina were startled to find their vehicles had been towed after they reportedly got permission to park in a Dunkin' Donuts parking lot during a campaign rally Wednesday. The Charlotte rally was the former president's first public campaign event since President Biden's exit from the 2024 race and since the assassination attempt on Trump.
https://www.foxnews.com/us/dozens-attendees-stranded-vehicles-towed-trump-rally-charlotte-report Looks like a boycott is brewing. More right wing cancel culture in action. How stupid do you have to be to park in a private lot with signs saying towing enforcement for non customers next to Bojangles Coliseum-ie a stadium? The Fox coverage does not match the local news outlet cover. $380 cash to get your car! Guess it was not free parking. Local coverage.
Many we talked to claim the employees gave them the green light to leave their cars there while they attended the rally. “They said we could park,” said another. “The managers inside promised them they could park here,” Zandar DeSoto said. We talked to the on-duty manager this morning, and they said: “I told several people they cannot park here. We have a towing-enforced sign. That’s my statement.”
https://www.wbtv.com/2024/07/26/they-dont-care-company-who-towed-cars-during-trumps-charlotte-rally-had-suspended-license/ Fox News does not let facts get in the way of fake outrage.
The manager probably collected $50 or $100 cash each tow s/he called in. That's how these predatory towing scams work.
It isn't predatory when the area had huge signs and people ignored them.
Yes, it is. A parking ticket is at most $50 to 100. Predatory tow companies will steal your car and shake you down for $400-500+ and often pretend they can't find your car and tack on predatory extra fees. All cash.
If you park somewhere and there are large signs saying you will be towed, then that isn't predatory. If you park somewhere and it seems a little sketchy but ok, no signs, and you get back and there is no car, but a piece of paper taped to a fence that says, your car is at XXX address, that is predatory.
Yes, it is. They are stealing cars and extorting people for hundreds of dollars in cash for often a careless small mistake.
So in your world, it is perfectly legal to park for free on someone else's property.
Both things can be true. It’s wrong to park in a place where it is prohibited for you to do so. And these towing companies are predatory.
