[/quote] We solved that by coming up with a budget of what it would cost them to live away (and padding it) and had them save at least that (plus 401k) contributions. That way, they had their emergency fund and an excellent start to a down payment before they moved out. They also had a more realistic grasp of their discretionary expenses. [/quote]
