I post a lot about this show but only because it’s always so on topic. Anyway, The College Bound Kid just did an interview with the VP of enrollment at Rhodes College. They discuss this specific issue: https://yourcollegeboundkid.com/2024/02/19/interview-170-gil-villanueva-on-understanding-rhodes-college/ Also, I would be sure to check with students at the school who are there currently.
Ridiculous interview. When asked about crime & safety, the Rhodes College administrator switches the conversation to "snow storms". Not kidding. The area around Rhodes College is very dangerous. Near the Shelby Forest/Frayser section of Memphis which is the 4th most dangerous neighborhood in the entire US. https://moneyinc.com/the-10-most-dangerous-neighborhoods-in-america/
Rhodes is not near Frayser/Shelby Forest. I live down the street from Rhodes. Honestly, I'm torn on this. Rhodes is a great school. I know a lot of students who attend, and it's a great community. The campus is gated, but the safety is a concern. My son is a rising high school senior, and he's looking outside Memphis for college because he is tired of the crime here. I would just ensure that my kid used common sense in leaving campus, particularly at night.
I would just ensure my kid used common sense - don't live in Memphis, don't go to school in Memphis.
