NED V FRA. offsides or not? I say this was a terrible call. Line of vision and play not effected.
If you watch the view from behind the goal, I do feel like the goaliee was moving to the ball and then checked himself when he realized the player was there. Maybe he wasn't in the line of sight, but I did feel he impacted the play.
DS is a ref and it was an offsides for him, not even close.
You cannot NOT call offside there. Attacker needed to get the hell out of the way. Dumb-ss But, based on the laws, it's tough. The criteria for offside is 1. Interfering with play by playing or touching the ball. Nope 2. Interfering with an opponent by - CLEARLY obstructing the opponents line of vision. Nope - Challenging an opponent for the ball. Nope - Clearly attempting to play the ball that is close when this action impacts on an opponent. Nope - Making an obvious action that clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball. - This is where the offside call came from. Personally, I believe it was the BEST call. Although from the back angle, I felt like the GK was dead. No way of getting to that ball and didn't even react until the ball was going past him. Nevertheless, if I was AR, I would have called offside. If I was VAR, I would have called offside. As referee myself, I thought there was an interesting call in the Belgium match today. The Belgian right winger, I forget his name, was dribbling, cut in and was dribbling across the top of the box and stepped on the defenders foot and the ref called a foul against the dribbler/attacker. I've never seen that called before.
