DD goes to a small private. Each year about 4-5 go to T5s, about 25-30 go to T20s. 9th grade report card came out, A, A-, B+, B+, B-. She is guessing ranking 30 among students based on their discord grade discussion. varsity sports. student government. non-profit set up with friends. What efforts to get in T20.
Agree, this student is likely bottom half , AND will not be tracked/slotted into the highest core courses after that freshman year. Private schools typically gatekeep the hardest courses(as they should, so the ones who cannot handle it and would get Cs do not get in). Embrace the student you have , OP Kids like this ED to Tufts or BU or Wake from our school.
There is no way on earth she is getting into these schools with a 3.4. Not from evenprivate, not even ED. I have kids at two. The grading is deflated but this is patently false information. Completely false.
Not with a 3.4. Assume she gets that up to a 3.6+?? Otherwise she’s presumably in the bottom 1/2 of the class which doesn’t seem to be what OP is saying? Applying in August ED to Wake is key — we have seen several 3.5uw get in then….its rolling ED there…..Obv full pay from rigorous private. Also it depends on the class/cohort. This is all so school dependent.
