I have noticed "the younger set" has different rules about hose than I do (I'm 51). Just asking out of curiosity - when did pantyhose become old fashioned? (I sort of missed the memo -- must have been in those years I was a SAHM with young children and rarely wore dresses.)
I'm the 26 year old poster above you. I don't necessarily think it is old-fashioned, I think it is just a different style for different age groups. Let's be honest PP, would you wear some of the stuff that 20 year olds wear? Maybe...but I'm guessing not a good chunk of it. People in their 20s and 30s (I'm assuming) don't have the same type of legs that 40, 50, 60, 70 year olds may have. Again, sorry if I don't get the ages right, I'm pretty much guessing here when skin starts to change. I can totally understand wanting to wear hose to camouflage spider veins and age spots. Most 20 something year -olds don't have to worry about that yet. It is also more common for older women to wear hose, so you may be seen as the odd woman out if you don't wear hose...whereas I'm seen as the odd woman out if I do wear them! I think I stopped wearing them around 15, when I was finally able to convince my mom that no one wore them anymore. I will say, I do know some friends (and I've been guilty of this) who buy control top hose and cut them right above the knee to wear underneath formfitting dresses.
