Really? you don'r know about orthodox Jewish practices?  The baths? No sex during a period? woman must be clean as verified by sometimes a rabbi if there is a question, and so on?  Sex on Fridays?

Nah, the reason is entirely that some people, within all cultures and religions, believe the bible to be literal and practice it that way. If you want to dig deep in to history,  a previous poster here surmised the reason behind many religious laws, food & hygiene,  had to do with sanitary issues at the time and that is likely.
