Fraternity members who more or less wind up in the frat circumstantially lose .25 GPA points, but gain a 36% boost to their lifetime income. The latter is probably a combination of increased skills and a social network that is both wider and more intense.

My hunch is that, as all the old social mechanisms continue collapsing, and with the younger generation faces an epidemic of friendlessness, where what little social life remains is engaged with online, the income premium will become higher, as well as the benefits of belonging which not directly measured by the paper.
