What an ugly and elitist comment. If you really think that way why SoCal of all places??? So tacky!! Visit Hawaii, stay on this coast and go to Aruba or St Thomas, go south to Mexico (stunning) or Italy (exquisite). The local beaches are wonderful and have lots of hidden gems, but it’s not the Caribbean but no one is billing it as such!!! [/quote]

Agree 100%.  Yes, California beaches have a lot natural beauty, but if you get over your elitist attitudes, you can have a lot of fun at local beaches.  I have a relative that lives near Big Sur, most beautiful beach in the U.S., IMHO.  As pretty as it is, unless you have a wetsuit, nobody is swimming in that freezing water.  I grew up going to OC and Delaware, but even if I remove the nostalgia, I think the water can be great.  Also love Hatteras Island, which has even warmer water.  [/quote]
