I never post about running. If you didn't know me well or work with me, you'd have no idea I am an avid runner. I was really charmed by this friend posting about running because for me, running is very solitary and very "me vs me". Which means that part of me is always the loser. I think most runners are similarly humbled by a sport that you can never actually conquer and that at the more competitive levels, is completely about tolerating discomfort. So I was charmed and kind of elated that this friend was earnestly posting about starting running, until it looked like she might be lying. And this affected me because it's true, running is always a source of like... humility at best and shame at worse.
