We visited both this past weekend. Friday was Buckeye Bound day and DD was not impressed. It is possible that the weather negatively impacted her opinion, but either way, she left saying that there was no way she wanted to spend 4 years there. On Saturday she went to Indiana and did a guided tour and visited a dorm (couldn't make the Red Carpet day as it was also on Friday). She loved it. She loved the campus, and the overall vibe of the school. After this, there was no question. Has your child visited both? They have a very different feel while on campus.
 We had the opposite outcome! We did the Buckeye Bound day on Friday as well and OSU moved up the rankings for DS after the visit. We loved Columbus. Have not visited IU, nor planning to, given how far away it is and the difficulty getting in and out and DS agrees with that. We met several families on Friday in a similar situation - got into both, visited both, but selected OSU for a variety of reasons: city vs. rural, easy to get to, quick access to an airport, etc. For DS it likely will boil down to OSU Business vs. Tech (non-business major).
I’m the PP and I’m not surprised! The campuses have such different vibes that I think if OP’s child visits both there will be a clear winner and a clear loser. I don’t think any kids would find them equally appealing. Neither is better or worse- just appeal to different kids. My DD described Indiana as feeling like summer camp- her favorite place in the world. And yes, academics matter but business is great in both schools so that shouldn’t be the deciding factor.
Agree. We know a couple of kids at Kelley who are having a great time! I'd also recommend folks check out College Confidential threads on IU and OSU. IU has multiple threads and most of the discussion is around Kelley. Lots of info..
