This evening my child stated they did not want to go to walls, but wanted to go to Banneker. Unfortunately, we listed walls 1 and it’s too late to turn back now. Any insights on getting into Banneker by placing it as number 2?
Well, you'll know soon enough. Hopefully in your case the child will be waitlisted at Walls and matched at Banneker, problem solved. That certainly happens for a lot of applicants I have heard of in the past with Walls listed #1 and Banneker #2. If rather the student gets into the school they stated was their first choice, but it's not truly their first choice...not sure you can really negotiate that at this point. They can apply out at 10th.
This is correct. My DC put SWW first and Banneker second, and when they got waitlisted by SWW, they enrolled at Banneker. Then later, an offer came from SWW, allowing DC to choose. It's literally the only way a kid can have two offers at once--getting off a waitlist at one school allows a choice between that school and the one that they enrolled at.
Oops, I'm PP, and realized I erred in that message. There is another way, of course--you always have a right to your neighborhood school, so if you are offered a spot at a selective school, a charter school, or a school you're not zoned for, you are choosing. So what I'm saying is that I meant "literal" in the figurative sense. :P If there are other ways you can be offered two seats at once, I am not aware of them. I don't think any kids will have a spot at both SWW and Banneker on March 29. At least, that's not how it's supposed to work.
