I grew out my pixie during Covid and decided ded to keep it longer because the cost of regular trims *tripled* at my salon when they reopened. A haircut that requires a trim every 6-8 weeks makes that insane. I have always been happy to pay for quality salon service (it's not like my place was cheap before) but that just feels like throwing money away. I'm not a television personality or something. My hair looks great short but oh well. Also the skyrocketing costs of color hane me re-evaluating that too. I used to experiment a lot with color (easy and fun with short hair) but it doesn't make sense anymore. Now I'm growing out my grays with some blended highlights to soften the line. The irony here is that I used to be a salon's dream customer -- 10 or so cuts a year plus regular bleach and tone multiple times a year, and I'm adventurous so my colorist used to love me, I helped her build a huge part of her book with a willingness to try things. I know spend a fraction of what I used to and that will decline further as my grays grow in. I've learned to tone it at home using high quality products. Now it's two very basic cuts a year to maintain a lob, and will soon be no color at all. Spending thousands less than I did when services were less expensive.
