I find when people are on a diet, it monopolizes every conversation. From the best soup recipe made from cabbage and water to a dessert with zero sugar, but with a cup of Equal. It’s annoying, but it usually levels out. If the conversation is too diet centric for you, ask her to talk about anything else (kids, job, boyfriend). I wouldn’t get into the politics of semaglutide.
That's because for many of the dieting, food is on their mind most of the time, and fighting their impulses is taking up all their mental energy. They can get pretty irritable. Semaglutide seems to take that away for many people, so they don't have to live in obsessed misery to be a healthy weight. My MIL is slim and judgemental, but doesn't really have anything to talk about besides food, weight, other people's weight, and how much everyone is eating, fat mannequins at Target, the fat people at the table next to us, the meals she's planning to skip in the coming week to make up for all the eating she's done with us, etc etc. No, none of us are fat. But she is fighting a battle everyday to remain underweight and it shows in her behavior and speech.
