I have been ranting amongst my friends about 2024 being the worst election, in terms of choices, in my lifetime. I was born at the tail end of the Reagan administration. Every election in my lifetime, including those I was too young to vote in, at least included one candidate who was somewhat qualified and competent. Some older friends were saying that Nixon vs. Humphrey was worse in terms of candidates. What say the rest of you?
I'd say both Nixon and Humphrey were well qualified with relatable job experience and reasonably fit for the job while seeking office in their late 50s. Obviously Nixon's character flaws were exposed after he became president and while his flaws were very serious, I don't consider him to be on the same level of awful as Trump. There is no doubt the 2024 election will be the worst in modern times in terms of the caliber of candidates if Trump and Biden are nominated. There are no logical arguments for why either of these men should be president until 2029. It's just ridiculous but that's where we are.
Biden is a seasoned politician who has been doing an excellent job with the economy. I’d rather have a president with arthritis but who knows what he is doing than limber president who is dumb as a rock any day.
I'll take Biden over Trump any day but I think we'd all rather have a President that is capable of working competently for more than 20 hours a week in 2027 and 2028.
Unless your candidate can win it makes zero difference their competence level. Biden can win as he has already proven. It is much better to nominate Biden and win than to nominate some super competent young candidate that can not win.
It's all about swing voters in swing states. They are currently swing voters for a reason- Trump and Biden have no appeal to them. If Trump or Biden were replaced with a normal candidate, the normal candidate would crush Trump or Biden. Put Trump or Biden on a debate stage vs a normal candidate and it's all over for Trump or Biden in the eyes of any undecided voters. Think about it. As it is, we're stuck with Trump and Biden and Biden is the better choice of the two.
The polling does not support your contention. In fact, it shows that Biden is the ONLY candidate who has a chance of beating Trump.
