Four years goes by fast. Good enough college town. If you get in and esp with aid, GO! Indy airport better to fly into than O/MID in Chicago.
Does anyone know if they give aid to in-state students? I ask this as an IL resident because I've heard rumblings from some parents that UIUC does not favor/give a bump to in-state students. A parent I spoke with about this thought the preference was for international kids. The numbers don't seem to bear this out - since 75% of admitted freshmen are from IL. And our Chicago suburban HS admits several kids there each year. Maybe she was specifically talking about engineering/CS? Or maybe it was the cost that she was bitter about? Didn't want to ask her to elaborate because I didn't know her well enough to ask for details.
They don't give aid to IL students unless they are very low income. For students at our selective enrollment high school in Chicago, it's often one of the more costly options, compared with out of state schools that do give merit and generous selective privates. It's also true that UIUC has dramatically increased out of state and international enrollment in recent years, though it's true that IL is still 75 percent, and of course comp sci is ridiculously competitive. There's a lot of reporting on it, here's a couple (dated but if anything I think both trends have only accelerated) - https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2015/01/07/u-illinois-growth-number-chinese-students-has-been-dramatic and https://www.chicagotribune.com/2019/03/12/illinois-losing-even-more-high-school-graduates-to-out-of-state-colleges/
