Econ is not a humanities major.
Econ is considered humanities at MIT for the purpose of fulfilling graduation requirements, although it's basically math.
Not true. It's considered a social science.
Normally it’s a social science. The type of Econ taught at MIT is very math heavy but it still counts toward “humanities” distribution requirements and is consequently pretty popular — MIT student strongly prefer to get their non-hard science classes with as much math as possible.
Not quite right. While several DCUM posters claim that economics is one of the "humanities", MIT is QUITE CLEAR that the distribution requirements of which you speak include both Humanities AND Social Sciences. HASS requirements stands for Humanities and Social Sciences. Economics is a social science, even at MIT. HASS requirements at MIT include both humanities and social sciences.
