The mission of the State U is to provide academic opportunities to citizens of the state. That’s reflected in the admissions numbers. Plenty of students thrive at state schools and go on to top graduate and professional programs, but they need to be proactive as undergraduates to seek out mentors, research opportunities, internships, etc. Nobody holds your hand at a big state school.
