just watched this video. Very upsetting.
+1. He’s completely delusional. He’s basing his policy choices on the fact that a work colleague CHOSE to live in a different neighborhood 40 years ago? We’re all getting punished because of this foggy memory which may or may not be true? This is scary stuff.
Ward 3 residents voted for a guy who campaigned on making your quality of life worse. Sadly, he’s good at his job and delivering on his promise.
I voted for the Republican. I have to live with my neighbors choices, but hoping next time they'll consider alternatives to Bernie Sanders type representation.
The republican was an awful candidate and barely mentioned crime on his platform. Nice guy and I spoke to him at length, but he wasn’t running to win. His campaign was heavy on no bike lanes…yeah, some people are passionate for or against, but 95% of us don’t care. He also spent a ton of time promoting charter schools. I pointed out that 90% of Ward 3 is DCPS or private and we don’t have any charters in Ward 3. Told him again just not a compelling issue for Ward 3. He claims he is really an independent and only ran Republican because the Republican Party refuses to stand down and not run somebody and endorse an independent. As a result, if he was independent he would split the vote with a republican.
I appreciate your viewpoint. However, his published platform mentioned funding police. Assuming if he saw the current situation he would move further than Frumin to address it. Charters may not be a compelling issue for Ward 3, but some children do attend them. Ours did. And an educational mix and school choice in general (charters, public (which let's face it has a huge element of choice with feeders and lotteries) vouchers, and privates) is something out family supports. All for neighborhood schools too.
Funding police was listed, but not prominently. Again, I spoke with the guy for a good 30 minutes. More importantly, he was not running to win...there was no fire or real interest. Again, I did say 90% of Ward 3 kids are DCPS or private...which, let me do my math...give me a second...means 10% attend charters. We all complain, rightly so, that Frumin and other Ward 3 council folks care too much about non-Ward 3 problems. Well, private school vouchers are not a Ward 3 problem...they might be good policy for the city as a whole, but I would be pissed off if everyone was allowed to use private school vouchers that simply subsidized kids already in private schools. In states where there are vouchers for everyone, 80% of the money goes to parents/kids already enrolled in private school. Also, don't think the private school won't raise tuition or lower their financial aid accordingly.
