I've only seen this done in Asian households. Most of my Asian and East Asian friends support their parents. It's part of their culture to give back support for all the support the parents provided over the years.
Most of Asian parents are against kids doing part side jobs or taking any loans and pay for everything until kids find professional jobs which drains their savings, specially donut holes one sending kids to expensive colleges without financial aid.
Asian-American here - I'm sure this depends on where you're from (e.g. Asian-American vs Asian immigrant/rich suburbs vs. inner city), but all of my older family members are much wealthier than their children. Same goes with my friends. Nobody I know is supporting their parents. I have a few friends who live very close to their parents, one friend whose in-laws live with her, but there is no financial support.
