The teams are asking the city to pony up a half billion dollars for "upgrades" to an arena that opened in 1997 and has had two infusions of upgrades in the intervening period of time.

What you are seeing is team owners leveraging to get the city to play ball.

The bottom line, no one is going to VA from DC and MD for pro sports events. There is a reason the teams are located in DC - so it is easier for everyone to go to the middle of the region for sports, theater, museums etc[/quote]
