Capital Lacrosse Club happened. It became the no doubt best club for high school in the NoVA and DC area and draws the top players from local clubs, including from Pride's very strong middle school program. Also Stars started a high school program and YJ MA launched as well, and further diluted the NoVA talent pool for High School.
There hasn’t been a dilution of talent. There has been a shortage of talent. Gone are Cardinal -Super Nova -2 Separate 3D & Metro teams - Cavalier. Could be others this is just off top of my head.
You can thank travel clubs in third grade for that. Rec. lacrosse is almost extinct.
Agree, this is not a Capital thing, it’s a shortage of talent now. Both Capital and Pride had highly ranked and competitive HS teams just several years ago. I’ve had several girls playing for be the past 10 years and while there has always been some top talent on teams, the depth of talent across teams has fallen way off. It’s interesting to continually hear how lacrosse is the fastest growing sport, but in this area the numbers do not support this statement.
I have to disagree with your assessment. The problem isn’t that there are more travel teams it’s that there are less kids. Live Births peaked in 2007 (births not birth rate). After the 08 financial crash births declined add in a diversified sports industry (girls wrestling, field hockey At younger ages, rock climbing etc.). You’re going to have fewer athletes to go around.
On no. Fencing guy has emerged from hibernation. Folks, you better register now for Live Love Rock Climbing 2024. Slots are going fast.
The national boom that isn't reflected in Virginia can be attributed to soccer being a spring sport. Virginia is one of very few, if not the only state, that has HS soccer as a spring sport. The national growth of lacrosse attracts many kids who play soccer in the fall, and lacrosse in the spring is an easy add on. High Schools can easily add lacrosse because there isn't another field sport competing for athletes. The growth is much easier when it isn't competing with soccer. You are also competing with the growth of other travel sports. Travel volleyball and basketball have similar schedules to travel lacrosse.
