[twitter]https://twitter.com/TomLynch_/status/1728154771675021703[/twitter]
Wow, look at this. A crime is committed. The councilmember brings attention to it. The police investigate and someone is arrested. If only we could get Frumin to care as much about violent crime as he apparently does about property crime.
This. He should be quite literally out walking the streets, calling things in, until all of this nuisance crime subsides. The sidewalk in front of City Ridge smells permanently of pot. Why is that? He could call it in. The flasher in the bank. He could call it in. Etc.
Let me know the last time he made multiple public comments, press releases or tweets about a violent crime in Ward 3. https://twitter.com/CMFrumin/status/1727365115882918313 It’s not an exaggeration to say that he’s purposely been avoiding publicly directly addressing and bringing attention to the crime issue in Ward 3. That is until this specific case of property crime. I think the onus should be on Frumin to explain why this seems to be the only crime that has caught his attention and is a priority for him.
It’s near his neighborhood.
If there is one consistent thing about Frumin, he is overly sensitive to businesses. It’s why the bike lanes are dead and also why he cares so much about property crime.
That’s fair up to a point. We are in danger of losing more neighborhood businesses because of crime and disorder that are spiraling out of control
Frumin should be outside every day moving from hotspot to hotspot and calling in nuisance crime on up. I'm sure District 2 takes his calls.
If he just stood outside the Van Ness or Cleveland Park metro stations for an hour he would see multiple crimes including 100% chance of open weed use and retail theft. High likelihood of carjacking or theft.
Every time I've had a friend meet me at the VN Starbucks there is a mentally ill person taking a sh&t on the plaza, despite open bathrooms feet away in both Starbucks and Giant. After the 4th time, I now invite people to Saku Saku in CP w/courtyard. Tried the one on Wisconsin but it's practically in the lobby of The PIW and a naked man ran out into traffic and had to be subdued by LE. My out of town visitor found it upsetting, not "vibrant." More like the Tenderloin than VN and Cathedral Heights of old. Re: Frumin, I've gone on a few MPD neighborhood walks and have yet to see him or even staff. Or Courtney Carlson, for that matter. Cheh used to be a presence in the neighborhood.
If he did NOTHING else for the next few months, he could walk Ward 3 and call in disturbances like this to District 2. Stand by the Tenleytown metro at school let out, monitor PIW admittances and releases, monitor the hotspot buildings on CT. I'm pretty sure District 2 and 311 would take his calls. If not, he could have his aides follow up. Be of use Frumin. It's a salaried position with parking!
An actual reasonable and responsible thing he could and should do as a councilmember is to go to each business and leave his card and tell them to call his office if they are having issues with nuisances and trouble getting 311 or MPD to respond and address. Then he obviously needs to vigorously follow-up with these businesses when the do contact his office but also to just regularly and proactively check in on them. Phil Graham may have been corrupt, but he was actually a very good politician and knew how to do this stuff right.
