Also, there are certain situations when people may choose to do something special to keep everyone "in the loop"....do people really "fish for presents?"  I actually don't know anyone that is like that, so definitely pointing back to several comments that "it just depends on your social circle."  Anyway, my son was born in NY and we are living in TX now.  I wanted our NY connections to receive a cute bday picture of my son and to announce this milestone in his life. Yes, they all know what month / year he was born, but people move on with their lives and it's difficult to keep up with birthdays....and most of my friends are single with no kids, so I think they would love to receive an announcement.  It's also a message that I still care and think of them often.  They were a huge part of my pregnancy and my son was the first baby in our circle.  Keeping people involved / updated doesn't mean an attempt at gifts.  However, I factored in all the feedback and decided to do one AFTER he turns one.  And keep it a simple message with "Joseph turned 1!"  How would 3 words warrant an attempt at gifts?  Silly.

People send emails all the time.  It's nice to have a pic to put up on your refrigderator for a week or two.  I get silly Christmas announcements with pics from them every year.  I don't send them a gift.[/quote]
