The style of dialogue is based on screwball comedies of the 1930s & 40s. I’m a huge fan of the Thin Man movies, and the speech patterns are very similar. [/quote]

That said, I have to be in a certain mood to watch this type of dialogue. I like both GG & MMM, but had to turn off MMM last week because the pace was so irritating to me. It's hard to have on in the background--you really have to focus or you miss stuff. [/quote]

I love the pace of these shows! NYer and big fan of screwball comedies. Watching shows with this pace of dialogue is my go-to comfort TV.

I worked in Fort Worth for a few years and spent months altering the cadence and pace of my speech after frustrated comments from coworkers. I found it maddening to pay attention to their pace of speech, but it helped to realize that it was as exhausting for them to listen to me as it was for me to listen to them. [/quote]
