Yo, what up Ward 6 dad in his 40’s here. Charles Allen does a good job with sort of admin tasks, and is responsive, but over the years I’ve seen him rely on (selective) “evidence based” science when he helps implement policy. I mean the youth rehab act, second look act, his support of the overturned crime bill that would have allowed for jury trials that would overburden the court system (even if new staff was hired as suggested). He also seems to enjoy blaming external factors rather than the perpetrators of crime. Whether it was him blaming the city for not cleaning up leaves quickly enough last fall, which basically left “an attractive nuisance” that poor unsuspecting teens couldn’t help but light on fire under cars. Or when he voiced meekness about the stabbing at Potomac metro. He basically doubles down on clearly failing progressive criminal justice reform policies. Like how are those violence interruptors doing? You know the ones that cost the city $9m? The whole city is fked. Whether it’s a USAO who won’t prosecute or a city council who is so bleeding heart woke they can’t imagine imposing strict and swift punishment for crime. How’s that CVS up in NW? You know the one NPR profiled? How are we going to do after the $500million budget shortfall from the loss of property tax revenues? I mean we just sit idly by watching crime happen because everyone is too scared to offend anyone by arresting and prosecuting criminals. Oh, that’s right I’m sorry, the crime wave isn’t happening and I’m just regurgitating Fox News talking points. Don’t believe your eyes and ears. All is well. Charles Allen and the other council members are doing great. I wish we could get Congress to implement a criminal control board. Jeff, I know your political leanings based on reading this forum. No need to chastise me.
100% cosigned, fellow Ward 6 parent in my 40s. And I'm a liberal, like 95% of all people in DC. DC is starting to feel like a parody of what someone like Tucker Carlson thinks a liberal, coastal city is like. We've handcuffed ourselves to ideals that ignore the reality of running a city of 700,000 people. It's actually okay to prosecute crime. The victims of crimes are also deserving of our support and assistance. Some might even say the victims of crime are MORE deserving of our support and assistance than the people committing violent crimes.
