We are in Loudoun county, and the consistent messaging we’ve received this year is that the school is paying closer attention to absences (both excused and unexcused) because this year for the first time in awhile the state is linking accreditation to attendance… I’m wondering if this will amount to anything or have an impact.
I am too and our MS and HS are saying this too. But I am highly skeptical that it is going to matter. The people with the really poor attendance (I’m not talking about rich people pulling for Disney) are the ones who don’t place a high priority on grades or school. They aren’t going to change that because the school lectured them.
Agree. We are in Fairfax and have had this message drilled in at every pto meeting anf every correspondence from the principal. It annoys me. Families that make a conscious choice to prioritize days off over attendance and do all the things to make sure their kids are OK shouldn't be the targets of this truancy message that needs to go to families who are really struggling. It feels pedantic to me to get lectured if i decide to take an extra day to save money on flights or have more time with extended family
