Lots of great recs here. Our daughter was in a similar situation last year. It also may be helpful to have her engage directly with the DCPL librarians as well as the staff at Politics and Prose so she takes ownership of her own reading and canbounce ideas off of them. Our daughter has made such good connections at both places she stops in just to chat with the staff now, which I appreciate, and they also let her know when something new and potentially interesting is about to be released. Good luck!
Most libraries (both public and school) will have librarians who can offer good suggestions. Goodreads has tons of reading lists. If you find a book she likes, look it up on Goodreads, and in addition to listing some similar books, you can find all the booklists that include that book and pick the ones that focus on the particular characteristics she’s looking for (although they may not all be children’s books). Also, if you go to an Author’s page on Amazon.com, it will list similar authors that she may enjoy.
