GPA 4.4 as a junior, expected to rise above a 4.5 with a tough senior year course load. SAT 1450 with 760 math. Job as a tutor, several clubs with leadership, lots of volunteer hours, some sports. Target is UVA, fall back WM, safety VT. I I've heard that UVA is hyper competitive so I figured that was a reach. But as the submission dates get closer I'm wondering if we could reach higher.
I would reach higher, but I wouldn't consider WM a fall back or VT a safety. One of DS's friends (class of '22) was accepted at UVA and rejected by VT. Younger DS's friends (class of '23) seemed to see a lot of WL movement, so they were generally pretty happy where they ended up, but it was hit-and-miss for a while. It is a crap shoot these days, so don't count any chickens.
With a 4.4 as a junior from NOVA, WM isn’t a fallback in RD unless you are at TJ. ED, yes. But not RD. Sorry, but my DC (class of 22) had several friends in the 4.4 range who wanted UVA and assumed WM was a given in RD. Spoiler alert: a couple were accepted, a couple were rejected outright. One was WL and offered spring admission.
