Its one of those stats that doesn't actually say what you think it says. The problem being that the racial composition of "Native born" and immigrants is completely different. Once you control for race, immigrants are more likely to commit crimes. [/quote]

Here is the murder data:

Note that Asians get lumped into other because they don't commit enough murders to be their own line.
US population:

Racial Composition of immigrants:

So we have a rough racial breakdown of murder:
White - 61.6% of population/23.4% or murder
Black - 12.4% of population/44% of murder
Hispanic - 18.3% of population/13.2% of murder
Everyone else - 7.7% of population/3.7% of murder
Murder doesn't add up to 100% because "unknowns"

Now we have the composition of immigrants:
Asians - 27%
Hispanic - 40%
White - 21%
Black - 9.5%

The racial composition of immigrants is significantly more Asian and Hispanic. Asians commit so few murders that they alone are enough to skew the analysis in favor of immigrants. That's why lumping immigrants together is deceptive.
