Do not let your child step into a school that won’t do IEPs until you have a clearer understanding of her needs. The privates will say “we are all learning abd can work with you”. But they aren’t sufficiently resourced—and will blame your kid
This. Like pp in post above my AuDHD with anxiety ended up with PTSD from progressive school that seemed amazing, child led and nurturing. There were no iep supports and little things like lack of schedule consistency caused panic. The teacher told us they were unable to give child the support they needed because of staffing. Little things like bathroom breaks during recess or extra reading support. They didn’t have the people, training or tools for even minor accommodations. Flip side I could never do parochial school because it’s too rigid.
Was public the best fit then?
DP, Just switched my ADHD/anxiety kid to public from progressive. She is happy. says she loves school. and is thriving.
That’s awesome! I know how hard it is to make a big change, but so glad it worked out for your family.
