On WTOP today, it was reported the Council is debating a bill which would require those arrested for fare evasion to give their real names to police, instead of giving a fake name: https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/transportation/dc-council-to-hold-hearing-on-bill-making-it-easier-for-police-to-issue-fines-for-metro-fare-evasion/3441354/ Is that fair?
How can you be arrested for something that is not a crime?
And why should you be required to give the cops your real name??
Should be a crime to jump the fair collection. Don’t give the cops your name, no problem they will eventually learn the person’s identity when booking them. Longer it takes the longer they sit in a holding cell with their new friends. Enforce small crimes and overall criminal activity goes down.
