I teach mixed grade classes (an AP elective) and use Senior Skip Day as a day when the juniors and sophomores in the class can get caught up on any missing work and/or receive individualized help with concepts they're having trouble grasping. If a student is all caught up and doesn't need any review, great. Those kids can work on assignments for other classes.

And I teach an AP class only offered to seniors. I can’t waste a day because I have too much content that needs to be covered before exams.

If you can't figure out how to deal with one day where you won't have a majority of your students so you pop quiz them as "punishment," you're not only an a-hole, you're a crappy teacher who doesn’t know how to plan.

Teachers have the lesson planned for weeks. Senior skip day is a random day. Teachers don’t know exactly when that day is so how can the plan. You are the a-hole.

Senior Skip Day is FAR from random. All you have to do is listen to them talk. It's no secret when the day is, and it's planned at least a week in advance. If the a-hole teacher can't adjust her plans, that's on her and it makes her a crappy teacher. Does her world fall apart when there's a snow day?[/quote]

DP. This makes no sense to me. Why should a teacher accommodate skipping students? I'm all for skipping in the Spring post APs and all, but skipping now seems dumb. And, no one should expect instruction to pause because students wanted to ditch school.  That's some crazy sense of entitlement there.[/quote]
