I’m not knowledgeable on this. Is quartz engineered stone? Granite?
No, see the article link in the OP. Natural quartz and granite are not engineered stone. Caesarstone and Cambria is.
Engineered stones are made when quartz is crushed and then resin is added. Then it is compacted into slabs for counters. Anytime engineered stone it is cut, sanded, drilled, polished, etc. silica is released into the air. The people posting that it is the workers fault and they should just wear masks don't understand the dust goes everywhere. The workers are covered in dust and then wearing those clothes home to further expose themselves and their families. Workers aren't given high quality protective gear including extra clothes. They should be getting lung function tests and lung x-rays every three years (suggested by osha) but it isn't happening because it isn't mandated. My son is reading going to read Upton Sinclair's the Jungle this year in 11th grade. I am going to save the article for him to read when he is reading the book.
