Oakton indeed has a great sense of community depending on where you live. The Miller Heights/Windsong neighborhood is really active and organizes lots of neighborhood events. This part of Oakton is zoned for Waples Mill WS, which wasn’t one of the schools OP noted as of particular interest. Waples Mill ES feeds into Franklin MS and then Oakton HS. BUT if your kid is eligible for Level IV AAP services, then they’ll transfer to Hunters Woods ES because Waples Mill still doesn’t have Local Level IV. From there, Level IV eligible kids can either go to Franklin MS for Local Level IV or go to Carson MS, which is the AAP Center.
OP here. I was a bit less interested in Waples Mills because of test scores but would still consider if has strong Local Level IV. I noticed the center school looked far flung. Happy to hear more about this school.
Waples mill is a really good school too, wouldn’t read much of anything into the test scores. Waples has a really strong community. Level IV is in fact at Hunters Woods which can be a hike but plenty of eligible kids stay at Waples and just get special services and that works okay.
Ah, right, this is one of the few that doesn't have local LIV. Thanks for this input!
