I think you first need to prioritize they get up with enough time to get something nutritious. Waking up with time to eat breakfast have greater benefits than that extra 10 min sleep. My middle schoolers like smashed avacado on toast with a fried egg, steel cut oatmeal with various mix in, sometimes dinner leftovers, cheese omelettes, Eng muffin breakfast sandwiches or breakfast burritos. To maximize their sleep, I prepare their breakfast so it is ready when they come down for school. They sit and eat, I join them and have coffee and it is a a nice calm town before they head out to school.
That REALLY depends. DD's school bus is scheduled to pick up at 6:15, which means she has to be at the stop by 6:05. She has to be up by 5:15 at the latest, to make it to the stop on time. She would do better with an extra 10 minutes of sleep, than an elaborate breakfast at 5:45.
That is insane! Off topic, but would driving them allow significantly more time in morning?
I can’t imagine that schedule! Why is it so early?
I have no idea. Last year was bad enough at 6:30. With this one, I think they'll be in school by 6:45 or 6:50, for a 7:30 start. My guess is that they need to run more routes, and that bus has to double back. PP, driving her would allow her to get up at a more normal-ish 6:00 AM, and leave home by 6:50 or so. Honestly, we can leave by 7:10 and make it there on time, but she wants to have extra time in the morning to catch up with her friends. Last year, we did it all 4th quarter. This year, I think I'll just drive her from the beginning.
