We were at a large event this weekend largely filled with upper middle class parents in their 50s and 60s, so most of our kids are mid 20s to late 30s. It felt like we were at an MBA parent convention the number of times people dropped what MBA program kid one just finished and kid two finished a few years ago. Premier universities mostly, but premier or not, the MBA was mentioned whenever anyone was giving a brief bio of their adult kids. Parents with three or four kids, multiple kids would have MBAs. Of course it’s an accomplishment but does it warrant highlighting? Maybe I’m missing what this supposedly signals. I thought if you do mention credentials it ought to be medical school or medical residency or fellowship or maybe a top level school or clerkship. I guess I don’t understand what’s fueling this saturation.
When folks ask about your kids, I think that it is reasonable to mention any graduate school program--not just medical school or fellowship related. Parents are proud of their kids who earn a professional degree. What does OP expect parents to say when "giving a brief bio of their adult kids" ?
